Things like that started to bug me after a while. There's a tram system running throughout the city, but. It had no real structure to it, not as many distractions, not as much character. The customization options were greatly reduced, the story was really only half a story once you realized most of the missions are were tutorials, and Steelport felt in no way comparable to Stilwater in any way, really. That being said (again), Volition definitely skimped on a lot of the things that made SR2 great. SR: The Third was just a great change of pace in my mind, and I can't wait for the sequel. The over-the-topness was a welcomed change, the writing was just as good, and I really cannot remember another game in recent memory that has made me laugh to the point of tears. SR needed to stand out and stop being labelled the GTA clone it kinda/sorta was. That being said, I really, really liked Saints Row: The Third.

The story was also a little darker though it was still really funny at times, there were a couple moments that I thought were genuinely sad. There were also a lot of customization options for your character. It felt comparable to San Andreas in a lot of good ways. It was closer to GTA in that it was, on the surface, a functioning city with public transportation, visually differing districts, etc. It was way bigger than Steelport, had more things to do, indoor locations, and more character. For one, Stilwater was just a better city all around. Saints Row 2 had a lot of things going for it. So.I ask you, r/games, what's the appeal of Saints Row 2 to those of you who preferred it over the third title in the series? The combat wasn't anything special to me, and of course, I missed being able to buy my way up to invulnerability and unlimited ammo. The storyline bugged me, especially the cycle of vengeance between The Boss and Maero. I hated having to do sidequests just to be allowed to do main quests (if anyone has played No More Heroes, it's kind of the same thing). So I cheerfully dove into Saints Row: The Third and found it to be immensely fun with a ton of cheesy, over-the-top settings and jokes going all over.Īnd.having played Saints Row 2 when it went on sale, I have to admit, I did not like it at all.

A friend of mine told me that Saints Row 2 was just bad, and wasn't worth playing at all. I actually played Saints Row: The Third first after reading the synopsis of the first two games on Wikipedia. Personally, I belong to the latter crowd. That made me wonder - why is that? Who here prefers Saints Row 2 over The Third? Or vice versa? Why do some see The Third as a blemish on the series, while others see it as a tremendously fun game? I was reading some comments about Saints Row in general, and something intrigued me - a lot of people seem to hate The Third with a burning passion because it's not like Saints Row 2.
